Why it matters.
Choose whether movement becomes a crisp moment or a visible trail.
A closer look.
A longer exposure time collects more light from continuous illumination. It also gives subject or camera movement more time to produce blur.
Compare a passing cyclist at 1/60 second and 1/1000 second, adjusting the other settings as needed.
Keep in mind.
No single shutter speed freezes every subject. Speed, direction, distance and image magnification all matter.
